THE STORY

As a young progressive artist of modern hieroglyphics, fine arts and Design Kirk “NOIR” Garnett has opened up his mind of color to the world around him. While being influenced by many of the greats; Kirk has chosen to push the ideology of peace, unity, love and having fun thru his expression and teachings.

Kirk Garnett, born 1990 in Chicago IL. Kirk was raised in the historically diverse Northwest Side of the City, Albany Park. Kirk went to school with a plethora of cultures, he took part in plenty of arts, crafts and music, but when he rode the city’s elevated trains he saw a beautiful art form done on the rooftops that blew his mind for years to come. In 2002 Kirk “NOIR” Garnett and family left the city of Chicago, searching for a new beginning, the family flocked to Florida as a large amount of people from northern cities did at the time. While residing in Orlando FL, Kirk attended school with a large amount of young adults from Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and New Jersey but the majority hailed from New York City. The world of HipHop culture was opened wide and Kirk wanted in. He bought a blackbook(sketch book) and started to develop his skills. While looking through The Source Magazine Kirk noticed a section at the back of the magazine called “Graf Flix” covering the Graffiti Hall Of Fame in Harlem, and he knew at that moment he was going to perfect his skills and be a professorial artist.

Kirk left Florida in 2006 and moved to Belize his parent’s country of origin. While living with his grandmother Kirk grew mentally while away from the everyday comforts of America. Kirk was enlighten on life and sharpened his mind against the knowledge and general attitude of the natives of Belize. Kirk continued his art in Belize and even directed a Drum Corps. After a long year Kirk returned to America to live in Dallas TX where he attended college at Texas State Technical College studying graphic design. While in college Kirk started to socialize and connect with other talented graffiti artist MC’s DJ’s and even b-boys. Kirk and fellow artists participated in a number of art shows, skating events and mural projects. After years of hard work Kirk was invited to be apart of the annual, historical, grassroots graffiti art show, Aerosoul in The San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. After two years of being involved in the show Kirk had the honor of meeting and learning from a range of legendary artist and pioneers like Chain3, Cre8, and Pose2.

In 2012 Kirk and fellow artists were approached by The City of Dallas TX to be consultants and head artist in the Free Walls Project. A new initiative in the battle of the powerful street art subculture. The Goal of this project is to give aspiring graffiti artist space to practice and decorate in each section of the city and integrate the art form into the fiber of the city’s rich creative artistic culture through press, festivals, galleries, ect. Through this project Kirk has been able to teach graffiti art classes at a local Dallas middle school.
After 12 years of hard work Kirk ”NOIR” Garnett is a full-time professorial graphic designer and artist. He continues to push forward in his artwork creating, learning and growing daily, pioneering a path for future artist to follow. Kirk is a visionary and believes that “We as artist have the ability to view the world in detail and have the power to change it for the better….
